.m. out west. i'm miguel marquez. if you're just tuning in, thanks for joining us. these are the top stories we're following in the cnn newsroom. new details about the murders of two military veterans, one a former navy s.e.a.l., chris kyle and his friend chad littlefield were shot and killed in ft. worth texas. the man who pulled the trigger is a veteran who kyle may have been trying to help with ptsd. susan candiotti joins us live with more. what do we know about how this happened? >> well, got some brand new information during the press conference. first of all, we learned about an alleged confession. and police say they think they also have found the murder weapon, when they describe as a semiautomatic handgun that was found at the suspect's house. let's back up a little bit. after the double shooting at that gun lodge, police say the suspected shooter who's 25-year-old eddie ray ralph took off in kyle's pickup truck. then they said that he went to his sister's house and told her and his brother what had happened, and then left that house. that's when the sister called the police

confirming now through your contacts as well that she has died. what can you tell us about what happened to her? >> well, i don't know if people may or may not be aware, but she had been doing well and things were looking up for her. she had children with a boyfriend who ended up killing himself a few weeks ago. she was struggling after that. actually was admitted herself to a psychiatric facility, and there's a cautionary tale here about the stigma of mental illness and the way in which the public attacks celebrities of which take care of themselves, and she was so fearful of the stigma and the way people were responding to her being hospitalized that she checked herself out prematurely and we have what we have. >> as i sit here looking at the picture, i am remembering a story from a while back that involved a child in custody with her? >> yes, a long struggle to regain custody of her child whom she finally just recently had custody again, and again, establishing a stable home with her boyfriend and things went off on a bad direction after he killed himself. again, i have no direct know

"newsro "newsroom" starts now. good morning, thank you so much for being with me. i'm carol costello. we start with a shocking valentine's day tragedy, the world renowned olympian oscar pistorius has been charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend. his girlfriend model reeva steenkamp only 29 years old found dead at pistorius' home. joining us now is robyn curnow, in south africa. what is the latest, robyn? >> hi there. this much we know. oscar pistorious will be formally charged with murder on friday morning, tomorrow, south african time. he's going to spend the night in jail here after quite a tranlgic set of events today. what do we know, is that his girlfriend was shot dead, initial ll lly reports suggeste had
